Uniqueness

"In a society where it is easier to label and pigeon hole people, our individuality and uniqueness is whittled down to being just a statistic."

Serge Halimi

"Why has a new report by the International Monetary Fund (1) gone mostly unremarked, given current concern about the widening inequality gap? The report, by Florence Jaumotte and Carolina Osorio Buitron, economists from this temple of neoliberalism, finds that “lower unionisation is associated with an increase in top income shares in advanced economies” between 1980 and 2010. They explain this correlation: “Weaker unions can reduce workers’ influence on corporate decisions that benefit top earners” and “increase the income share of corporate managers’ pay and shareholder returns.”

According to the report, “around a half” of the inequality gap, which neoliberals prefer to attribute to factors such as globalisation and technology, might result from the decline in labour organisations. It’s hard to be surprised. Unions have historically played a key part in the achievement of most freedoms, so their weakening can only sharpen the appetite of those who hold capital. And their disappearance creates a void quickly filled by the far right and religious fundamentalism, which divides social groups with interests that need solidarity."

Simplesmente no Street View

Vale a pena oferecer o Belo levando no coração a simplicidade
:)

Tagging on the surface of Space and Time

These images are still online today, although they were captured in 2009 by Google Street View. In that same year, we published here a post about them in the beautiful Espichel Cape. Virtual life seems to be endless!

Socio-Political

"A lot of the projects I do are related to socio-political situations not many people consider in their daily life, so it's a way of raising certain issues that other artists don't raise."

Never Noticing Otherwise

"I'm interested in attracting people's attention on a wall or a place they would never notice otherwise. Street art makes the daily and urban environment a bit more fun and interesting, and I'm definitely fighting for that cause."

An Offer to the City

"The city is ours. I want to surprise the passers-by; they wake up one morning and discover one piece on the walls. I want them to think, but most of all to smile, to amaze, to [feel] surprise, in a kindly way; I don't take action against the city, but rather for it and with it."

Not Signing

"Street art should be free, with people creating without thinking about money, the future or shows at elegant galleries. This is why we don't sign our pieces, if I put my name I became "the author", with that simple act I claim credit and attention. If you don't sign your piece, anyone in the city becomes a suspect of having done it, even that guy beside you waiting for the bus."

Going Beyond

"Hardly any of us now, reaching for success, relationships, money, fame, is able to give up all of this. Burn the bridges and tear down all your achievements for the sake of a new, illogical, unknown, reckless life or death. This installation is dedicated to those who have gone beyond their own dusty corners and are able to single-handedly create a new world. Those who are capable of self-denial for the sake of a step-forward."

Big Corporations' Freedom of Speech

"People with money can put up signs. If you don't have money you're marginalized, you're not allowed to express yourself or to put up words or messages that you think other people should see. Big corporations, they're up all over the country and look at the message they are sending: they're just trying to keep the masses paralyzed so they can go about their business with little resistance."

Illegal Art Is The Strongest

"The lifespan of the art pieces [...] is typically short. Many are cleaned off, erased, covered, and destroyed within days of their creation. Some lucky ones, perhaps the sanctioned ones [...] tend to last much longer but I would argue that their impact isn't as strong as the art that is illegal and that we can encounter spontaneously."

a canção do ver!

Feathers of Hope

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune -- without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm."

"How many people can walk through a city and prove they were there? It's a sign I was here. My hand made this mark. I'm fucking alive!"
